
The 2009 SCBook Festival is scheduled for February 27 - March 1, 2009. The 13th annual festival will feature more than 80 authors in solo and panel presentations, more than 90 exhibitors selling books and book-related items, book signings, and special ticketed events including an Opening Night Gala and author brunch.

The Humanities CouncilSC is happy to welcome scholar Caroline McIntyre to Speakers Bureau: Humanities Out Loud. McIntyre offers two Chautauqua-style programs about heroic women Rachel Carson and Mary Draper Ingles.
Speakers Bureau: Humanities Out Loud sends some of South Carolina's finest scholars throughout the state to share their knowledge of the humanities. Caroline McIntyre is the newest member of 30 participating scholars who speak on a variety of humanities topics. Non-profit groups and public agencies are eligible to apply.

Let's Talk About It (LTAI) is a reading and discussion program for adults that is offered to libraries and other nonprofit groups through a partnership of The Humanities CouncilSC and South Carolina State Library. Themed series of 3-5 books are available on a variety of topics, and scholar facilitators add to the depth and fun of the discussions.
Two new series are now available! "Stiff Upper Lips 2 - Masterpiece Theatre" pairs literary classics with recent film adaptations. "Changing Places: Reflections on the Natural World" is a survey of American nature writing in the 20th century.

The Smithsonian exhibit Key Ingredients: America By Food will tour South Carolina from June 2008 - May 2009, visiting five small communities and the South Carolina State Fair. Key Ingredients explores how the food we eat connects us to our communities, heritage, and national culture. Key Ingredients is part of Museum on Main Street, a collaboration between the Smithsonian Institution and The Humanities CouncilSC.

The Smithsonian exhibit Key Ingredients: America By Food is now on display at the National Bean Market Museum in Lake City, SC (Florence County). The exhibit will be in Lake City until December 21, 2008. Special food-related events will take place during the exhibit's tenure in Lake City. See the schedule of events!

"Daufuskie Island, Photographs by Jeanne Moutoussamy-Ashe" is on display at the Coastal Discovery Museum on Hilton Head Island from November 14, 2008 - February 28, 2009. The photographs depict the Gullah residents of Daufuskie Island and explore the changing appearance and culture of this community. This project was supported by a THCSC mini grant in September 2008.
